Life saving club state finalist
PORT Campbell Surf Life Saving Club has been named a finalist in the 2023 Victorian Sport Awards.
The club has been named in the ‘Community Sporting Club of the Year’ category, one of just four clubs to be shortlisted for that award.
Finalists across 18 categories were recently announced for the awards, which recognise and celebrate the achievements of home-grown sporting heroes at both a grassroots and high-performance level.
More than 240 nominations were received from the Victorian sporting community, honouring those who have made an exceptional contribution to sport and recreation in Victoria during the previous calendar year.
Individual and team athletes, coaches, officials, volunteers, administrators and the initiatives that promoted participation from both metropolitan and regional areas were acknowledged as well as the elite sportspeople who shone at national and international events.
Among the 37 judges chosen for these awards were Olympian Steve Moneghetti, head of female cricket at Cricket Victoria Sharelle McMahon and Victorian Institute of Sport chief executive Anne Marie Harrison.
Others listed in the ‘Community Sporting Club of the Year’ award include Burwood Cricket Club, East Gippsland Gymnastics Club and Sale United Football Club.
The winners of each category will be announced during a special awards evening at Marvel Stadium on Wednesday, June 12.
