Bronte stars at show
ONE Camperdown resident has been recognised on the state stage recently, winning second place at the Melbourne Royal Show.
Bronte deGille took out silver at the 2024 Royal Melbourne Art, Craft and Cookery competition on day one of the show on Thursday, September 26.
She said she spent the morning checking the website in anticipation of the results being released.
“The results finally came out at about 10am, and I was quite nervous,” Bronte said.
“I didn’t think I’d get silver, but I was very excited about that.
“It’s very exciting to be representing a small country town and I feel very proud for that, especially because there were so many private school’s represeted that I’m sure have a lot more resources.
“I’m very happy to be representing for a small regional community.”
Bronte was competing in the Formal Wear or Costume Year 11 and 12 category of the secondary textile design junior competition with her piece called ‘The Rain Coat’.
“My piece is called The Rain Coat, and it’s inspired by fashion designer Robert Wun’s rain coat designs,” she said.
“The idea of it is the coat itself is raining, so I spent about 50 hours hand-beading all the little raindrops out of tiny glass beads to give off that effect.
“I make a lot of costumes and I spend a lot of time making sure that everything is very intricate and embellished, and that’s really my personal style.
“I’m trying to bring a bit of glamour into fashion and into costuming particularly.”
Bronte said she was “surprised” and “excited” to be recognised at the Melbourne Royal Show.
“It’s probably the first competition that I’ve put any of my handmade clothing into, so I was very excited about that,” she said.
“I really hope to get a career in fashion or costuming, and I really hope to get recognised by putting my works into more competitions.”
