Congratulations: Cub Scout Liam Rowe (middle) celebrated earning a Grey Wolf Award, the peak award for a Cub Scout, last week with his sisters Lucy and Amelia.

Liam earned the Grey Wolf Award last week, the highest award a Cub Scout can earn, in front of his peers and family.

He said he was happy to earn the award after clearing the final hurdle of organising a hike to the top of Mt Elephant.

“It was a really tough effort,” Liam said.

“I had to climb a really big mountain, Mt Elephant, which took around an hour and a half so I’m really happy to have achieved it.

“It was my job to plan all of it.

“I had to come up with the plans for safety and risks, from falling off the mountain to spraining your ankle.”

1st Noorat Scouts group leader Rob Rowe said he was very proud, as both Liam’s father and group leader, to see the sense of achievement he had gained in earning the recognition after years of hard work.

“There are three different milestone levels which can be achieved if they show participation, leadership and assistance,” he said.

“They have to complete a range of special interest areas and earn a variety of badges.

“It takes about three years from start to finish to get the peak award, from when they first come in as a Cub Scout to when they get towards the next section.

“He’s done a great job.”

Liam is the second 1st Noorat Cub Scout to earn the award this year, and becomes the second in the family after his sister, Amelia, earned hers in 2021.

“We’re absolutely stoked the kids are achieving these awards because this is what scouting is all about,” Mr Rowe said.

“When they’re achieving their peak awards, they’re more likely to be leaders in the community when they’re grown.

“This is all about helping them be leaders in themselves, leaders in the community and showing them what they can achieve.”

The 1st Noorat Scouts are always happy to welcome any new members from across the region.
