Police investigating Bookaar break-in

POLICE are investigating an alleged break-in at an isolated property in Bookaar which occurred last week.

Warrnambool Police Detective Senior Constable Wayne Ryan said the incident occurred sometime between July 8 and July 12 at a Kilnoorat Road property.

“Unknown offenders have gained entry to a remote rural property by removing a large chain and three padlocks from some gates,” he said.

“They’ve then smashed the sliding glass door of the residence and ransacked through the house – kitchen cupboards, drawers and more. It appeared nothing has been stolen.

“They’ve also gained entry to a rear garage pump shed, once again cutting a padlock. Once again, nothing stolen.

“They’ve taken the padlocks and the chains with them.”

Detc Snr Const Ryan said the property owner was away during the five-day period but had “pretty good” property security.

He said police are looking for anyone with information that could help in identifying the offenders.

“If anybody has seen anything in that area, seen any suspicious vehicles or people that they don’t believe fit the rural aspect of where that part of the world is to please contact Crime Stoppers or Warrnambool Police Crime Investigation Unit,” Detc Snr Const Ryan said.

“Too much information is never a problem for us.

“If you’re going away from your property, make sure someone knows you’re away that lives locally, especially if you’re in rural areas.

“Therefore, if they see a suspicious vehicle in the area, they may take note of a registration or something along those lines.”

Anyone with information is urged to contact Crime Stoppers on 1800 333 000, or Warrnambool Police on 5560 1333.
